Mission Statement

The United States veterans are experiencing a housing crisis. Some estimates put the number of homeless veterans as high as half a million. Housing however is just part of the problem. What these defenders of our security need is security themselves. Most of these homeless Vets want to work. They want to be a contributing member of society. To be blunt they need jobs as much as they need a roof. . U Rock On’s Green Army Foundation is declaring war on Veteran homelessness. We have initiated a multifaceted plan to end homelessness and unemployment of our Americas veterans. We intend to show the feasibility of the plan here in Nevada and California and expand the plan nationwide. The first steps will be creating a fleet of buses. The Buses will assist the Vets in dealing with the bureaucracies that slow down their ability to receive the government help they were promised. Bus staffers will also distribute certified good used computers to Vets giving priority to those disabled Vets signing up for online educational programs. The buses will be accompanied by trucks distributing food and clothing to the neediest of Veterans. We will be employing several methods to assist in housing.. Today’s Veterans are finding it increasingly difficult to find jobs. They are saddled with stigmas that make many employers hesitant to take a chance on them. We will attempt not only to put these people to work but do so in a way that will help with some of the problems that are facing our society. The plan is to combine Grants available to Veterans as well as those available in other areas such as green businesses along with private and public fund raising. These funds will be used as startup capitol to create small community business. The businesses will be set up with meaningful profit sharing. Veterans working together for Veterans. By bringing many types of businesses under one umbrella we believe the pitfalls of many small businesses failing in the first two years can be minimized. The cost saving of bringing the administration duties under one roof alone will relieve the small businesses of a huge burden. We will initially team with existing Veteran training programs to staff businesses. Expanding in the future to include our own apprenticeship program increasing available grant funding. . Business such as electronic recycling qualify for anti-pollution grants. They can work in conjunction with electronic/computer repair shops. Donated electronics can be repaired and sold or given to needy Vets. Units not cost effectively repaired go to the recycling program. Given a choice of paying to dispose of a TV or Monitor and donating it to a Veterans recycling program the choice is clear. Plumbing businesses selling solar water heaters can qualify for grants from green energy programs. The same can be said for electrical contractors selling solar and wind generator. As energy costs continue to rise and wind turbine designs become more sophisticated the long term saving of these devices coupled with the tax credits are making these units quite attractive. Building Construction/remodeling is yet another venture. Through the Veterans affairs specially adapted housing grant program. Funds are available to remodel dwelling for disabled Veterans. The housing mortgage crisis is devastating the economy. We hope there may be a silver lining to the story. We are investigating the possibility of applying the remodeling grants in conjunction with VA loans to help disabled Vets buy and remodel distressed properties. There will even be job opportunities for the severely disabled to work from home if they wish to join the U Rock On Green Army. We hope further down the road to include a medical and mental health outreach program. Until then we will assist the Vets as best we can to utilize current local programs. We have set some pretty lofty goals but you can’t solve a huge problem without a huge effort. We will be looking for mentors to assist these startup businesses.
